My name is Nikhil Bhoola, 27 years old and from Durban, South Africa. I have been a fan of the Ford Cortina Mk1 ever since I was in School. It has been and will always be my favorite sports car. I purchased a Mk1 GT in October 2005 and have been restoring it ever since. The GT I own is quite unique to the ones that are found in the UK and Australia. This has been completely modified in terms of the engine and body.

Those that know Durban, South Africa very well will know that it is impossible to prevent a car from rusting in this town. We are very close to the sea and the humidity levels are extremely high. All cars that are +10 years old rust very quickly. My car was in quite a bad condition when I first got it. The worst you have ever seen - too bad I dont have any pictures of what it used to look like. It had layers of body filler and most panels were dented and rusted beyond recognition. My friend Rekey of Bumper Warehouse decided to work on the car over a 14 month period. During this time my car was sparked off completely at the panel beater. Work was only carried out on the car whenRekey’s business was quiet. After 14 months I got the car back and started rewiring the electricals myself and restoring almost every part that was damaged or destroyed. The car is very powerful. I estimate that it is pushing out close to 135KW .It is impossible to hold it straight from the line. I am still in the process of restoring it, but I have added a few pictures of it.
